Customer FAQ Answer: Why Do I Not See The Plume Of White Fog From My Cryo Gun?

Why No Plume Of Fog?  This question just came in from a client in Europe and we thought we would share the answer to educate other CO2 gun users.  CO2 jets and handheld CO2 fog guns are virtually fail proof if you purchase from a reputable company.  If you have installed your CO2 fog system and upon firing it for the first time all you heard was a loud noise and felt a rush of cold air, a couple of things could have happened.  Below are the things to check:

1. Make Sure The Gas Company Supplied You With A Syphon (Siphon) Tube CO2 Tank
• Often the CO2 company will confuse the tank to supply you because they are used to supplying nightclubs with regular CO2 gas for soda guns.
• Your tank should be properly marked with either etching on the side that says (Syphon Tube) or if you use www.Airgas.com the top of the tank will be painted red to signify it is a Syphon tube tank. 
2. Make Sure Your CO2 Tank Is Not Empty
• In the gas supply industry they have a margin for error that allows CO2 tanks to be a few pounds heavy, or light.  (Of course for CO2 jet and CO2 handheld blasters, we definitely need it be heavy and not light)
• One option is to request each tank be weighed before delivery to ensure proper tank weight
• You might ask how do I know if the tank is empty?  You might notice the tank started out firing a huge dense plume of fog but after a short period of time it only made a loud noise.  This is an idicator that the tank is empty of liquid, but still contains CO2 gas under high pressure.  (It is time to change your tank to a new one)

Do CO2 Cryo Jets Set Off Smoke Alarms

Over the past several months we have been asked if CO2 cryo jets or the handheld CO2 cryo guns will set off smoke alarms in nightclubs and event venues; and here is a great video demonstrating how they will not set of the alarms in a normal setting.  When properly installed more than a few feet away from a direct blast into a smoke alarm, the rapidly evaporating CO2 will not set off smoke alarms.  This super cold visual effect is used by hundreds of nightclubs and production companies around the world and we have yet to hear of one setting off a smoke alarm when used as instructed.  Our friends over at POSH Ent were kind enough to share this video of one of Atlanta Special FX handheld cryo guns being blasted directly at a smoke alarm by Felix Lopez, a fireman with the Bayonne Fire Department.  As you can see when placed more than a few feet from the smoke alarm, the 15 foot blast of dense CO2 fog does not set the alarm off.  However when he walks within 3 feet of the alarm it does go off.  Thanks for the great video and please feel free to contact www.AtlantaSpecialFX.com with any CO2 cryo jet questions.  Enjoy.

Check Out The New CO2 Dewar Tank Adapter Needed For CO2 Jets

If you haven't noticed it yet, you will soon.  The standard fitting for Dewar tanks has been changed to ensure safety for companies like Airgas when filling refrigerated liquid Dewar tanks.  For those who have never seen the top of a Dewar tank there are many gauges and fittings that can be quite confusing to the untrained eye, and especially the CO2 jet novice installer.  Not to be alarmed though because they are usually very well marked.  One outlet is the gas hookup, which most nightclubs and production companies use, and it contains the CGA 320 fitting.  Another valve you may notice on the top of the Dewar tank is the pressure builder.  This valve is used to build the pressure in the tank to max operating psi for CO2 jets.  And the last side is the liquid fill side, which is the side you will want to attach your CO2 hose too.  Over the past many years you have been able to attach a standard CGA 320 fitting directly on to the liquid side and operate your CO2 jet system no problem.  However now you will notice the next time you go to attach your cryo hose that it no longer matches to the liquid side.  The new standard for Dewar tanks is a female attachment coming off the tank, which requires a new adapter.  The new adapter required is the CGA-622, sold by Atlanta Special FX.

How Large Does The Venue Need To Be For CO2 Cryo Jets To Work Effectively?

What Size Venue Can Use CO2 Cryo Jets?
A popular question we get a lot is "Can we use CO2 cryo jets in our intimate club?" Does A Dual Nozzle CO2 Cryo Jet Have Less Pressure Than A Single

When searching to buy a CO2 cryo jet system for your company you may have ran across several systems and have a couple questions.  One popular question is "Does the dual nozzle co2 cryo jet have less output than the single nozzle?"  There are a couple of different answers and it really depends on the CO2 tanks you decide to use for your install.  Options for your CO2 tank rentals or purchases are liquid siphon tube tanks in these sizes listed below:

1. 20 lb Liquid Siphon CO2 Tank
2. 50 lb Liquid Siphon CO2 Tank (Seen to the right)
3. 75 lb Liquid Siphon CO2 Tank
4. 100 lb Liquid Siphon CO2 Tank

5. 400 lb Liquid Dewar Tank (Seen Below to the left)

The main differences between the tanks is the pressure that the CO2 is compressed under.  The 20 and 50 lb Siphon tanks are pressurized at approximately 850 psi compared to the Dewar tank at approximately 350 psi.  The Atlanta Special FX Dual Nozzle Cryo Jet does produce a slightly shorter blast of CO2 fog when using the lower pressure refiigerated Dewar tank setup.  Using a high pressure system you should still see approximately 20 feet of cryo fog and more (in humid climates) but should hardly notice a difference.  Click here to watch videos of the units working on a high pressure system.  http://www.atlantaspecialfx.com/Fog-Smoke%20Machines.htm
